A new translation of "The Monk" (お坊さん)

お坊さん

お坊さんはとてもとても困っています
三年前に酔っぱらって階段から落ちて死んだ
落語家の友だちが夜中に電話をかけてきて
＜極楽はつまんねえ所だよウ＞と言うのです
＜蓮の花なんてプラスチックでよウ
観音さまはむっつりしてるし
地獄のほうへ引っ越せねえかなア＞
一所懸命お経をあげるのですが
落語家の友だちは毎晩電話をかけてくるのです
お坊さんはヤケ酒を飲み始めています

The monk is in big, big trouble
A rakugo storyteller friend 
Who drunkenly stumbled down the stairs and died three years ago
Makes a phone call to the monk in the middle of the night and says
"The Buddhist paradise is a damn boring place"
"The lotus flowers are made of plastic
And Boddhisattva is in a foul mood
I wonder if I could move to hell"
The monk recites the sutras with all his might
But the rakugo story teller friend keeps calling the monk every night
The monk starts to drown his sorrows in drink
